Kevin P. "Duke" Franzek

GROTON -- Kevin P. "Duke" Franzek, 59, of Common Street, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Ayer.
Kevin was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, October 16, 1954, son of Catherine B. (Murphy) Franzek and the late Stanley Franzek and was a lifelong Groton resident.
Kevin was a 1972 graduate of Groton Dunstable Regional High School and then continued his education at Suffolk University and Northern Essex Community College before receiving his bachelors degree in criminal justice from the University of Lowell.
For twenty three years, Kevin worked as a corrections officer for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, retiring at the rank of sergeant. He spent the majority of his career at MCI Shirley.
Kevin was a sports enthusiast and an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, as well as trips to Mohegan Sun Casino. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his nephews, niece, and grandniece. He loved all and was loved by all, his loss will be felt by many.
Besides his mother of Groton, he leaves three brothers, Stanley M. Franzek of Mason, NH, Walter J. Franzek of Shirley, John S. Franzek of Groton; two sisters, Karyn F. Franzek of Winthrop, Sharyn E. Franzek of Shirley; two nephews, Kyle Plante, Trever Franzek; a niece, Shawna Franzek and a grandniece, Kendall Plante.
FRANZEK -- Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road (Rte 2A) Ayer. Burial will be in Groton Cemetery. Calling hours are 4-7 Friday, February 21, 2014. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information.
