Alice R. (Byrne) McElligott
June 25, 1919 to February 22, 2014

BILLERICA -- Alice R. McElligott, 94, of Billerica, MA, died peacefully at home, Saturday, February 22, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by four children: Judith Foley of Billerica, Thomas McElligott, III of Carlisle, Michael McElligott of Billerica, and Jane McElligott of Rhode Island, their spouses: Edward, Terry, Patricia, and Michelle; four grandchildren, Michael Foley, Mary Donaghey, Jill McElligott, and Elizabeth McElligott; and one great-grandchild, Brandon Donaghey.

Alice (Byrne) was born in Stoneham, MA and graduated from Harwich High School on Cape Cod and Regis College in Weston. She loved participating in sports, particularly swimming, tennis, and basketball and earned the nickname "Bunny Byrne" for her jumping ability on the Harwich High School basketball team.

As a young woman, Alice traveled regularly to Florida and New York, and even flew by seaplane to Cuba. She worked as a payroll supervisor at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod during World War II. During that time, she met the love of her life and late husband of 69 years, Tom.

In her younger years, during the summer, Alice and her husband Tom managed rental cottages on Cape Cod. Later, they purchased a summer home near Craigville Beach where the whole family spent many wonderful and happy summers. Having grown up in Harwich, Cape Cod held many special family memories and friendships for Alice. When the grandchildren were born, Alice became known as "Mimi" and the whole family enjoyed many vacations on the Cape.

Mimi had a deep faith in the Catholic religion, and she always relied on St. Anthony to help her through any difficult times. She was a member of the Women's Sodality and a communicant of St. Theresa's Church. She was a caring and devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cheering for her children in road races, Cape Cod, Florida, dogs, and decorating, but, above all, family was most important to her.

"Mimi" laughed and enjoyed every day and always kept her cheerful and enthusiastic attitude. Just 18 days after his death, Alice joins her late husband, Tom of 69 years in a well-deserved and peaceful rest in heaven.

"Mimi" will be greatly missed.
