Roger Philip Nangle
of Lowell, served in two wars, Navy Vet; 88
LOWELL -- Roger Philip Nangle, 88, a longtime Lowell resident, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Winchester Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was the beloved husband of Denise E. (Dodge) Nangle with whom he would have celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on May 4, 2014.
The youngest son of the late Bernard M. Nangle and the late Ellen W. (Murphy) Nangle, he was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925, in Peabody, and was educated in the local schools, attending Keith Academy.
Mr. Nangle served with the United States Navy as a baker 1st Class, first during World War II and then during the Korean Conflict before his honorable discharge.
After 15 years residing in Rhode Island, he made his home in Lowell for 41 years before moving to Reading until his death. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church where he worked as a Sacristan for 27 years.
Mr. Nangle worked in the family business, Dana Trucking, where he managed the Rhode Island Terminal for 15 years. After moving to Lowell, he worked for Wright Trucking and Prince Macaroni until his retirement.
Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, was his favorite pastime. He also loved golfing, and was a member of the Long Meadow Golf Club.
In addition to his wife, Denise, he is survived by his children, Annemarie DeLisle and her husband, David, of Bedford, NH, Donna Curtin and her husband, Jack, of Litchfield, NH, and Linda Snell and her husband, Brian, of Reading; his grandchildren, Sarah DeLisle and Philip DeLisle of Bedford, NH, Patrick Curtin and Jack Curtin Jr. of Litchfield, NH, and Kathryn Snell, Caroline Snell and Patricia Snell of Reading; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Nangle of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Reardon; and his brothers, James Nangle, Bernard V. Nangle, George Nangle, William Nangle, and Paul Nangle.
