Dolores T. Shugrue
Loving Mother and Grandmother
LOWELL -- Dolores T. "Dolly" (Nowak) Shugrue passed away on Monday morning, June 2, 2014 at the Blaire House in Tewksbury at the age of 83. Dolores was born in Lowell on July 11, 1930, to the late Stanley and Helen (Raffa) Nowak. She attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Dolly was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church. Prior to her retirement, she was an administrator with the CTI Foster Grandparent Program for over 15 years.
Dolly loved being a Mother. Her maternal instinct and the value she placed on family were unparalleled. She was also very proud of her Polish heritage.
In addition to raising her own family, Dolly thoroughly enjoyed her job as a Foster Grandparent with Community Teamwork. Anybody who met Dolly would remember her as a kind woman, who made many lasting friendships during her years at CTI.
In her leisure time, Dolly loved to read, walk, watch movies, and listen to classical music. She enjoyed having a cup of tea in her rocking chair, bowling, and playing scrabble. When her children were young, Dolly enjoyed family trips and vacations at Hampton Beach during the summertime. When she was older, Dolly would enjoy taking a drive up to Maine. She was a lifelong resident of Lowell, before moving to the Blaire House.
Dolly was the mother of Susan M. Lebel who passed away in 1975. She is survived by her children, William J. Shugrue of Lowell, Patrick S. Shugrue and his wife Carla Marie of Pepperell, and Carole A. Meehan and her husband John F. of Dracut; nine grandchildren, James Lebel, Keri Fornier and her husband Terry, John Meehan and his wife Chrissy, Patrick Meehan and his wife Jen, Cindy Manseau and her husband James, Lisa Shugrue, Emma Meehan, Carney Meehan and his wife Kelli, and Jami Shugrue; ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Stella Barry of Florida; her nephew, David Barry and his wife Misty of Florida and her niece Robin Vitaris and husband Ron of Worcester; a great-niece, Bethany Vitaris. Dolly was also the mother-in-law of the late Pamela Shugrue who passed away in 2010, and sister-in-law of the late Russell Barry.
Dolly also leaves her longtime companion, William Burgoyne of Lowell. Dolly's children would like to lovingly acknowledge the many years of special care that William Burgoyne provided to their mother.
