Richard F. 'Dick' Barber
Loving father, grandfather, and brother;

U.S. Army Veteran of World War II

LOWELL -- Richard F. "Dick" Barber, of Lowell, died peacefully on June 5, 2014, in Lowell, after a period of declining health, aged 92 years.

He was the beloved husband of the late Stella (Petropoulakos) Barber, with whom he had celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, March 22, 1922, a son of the late Francis E. and Catherine B. (Fleahman) Barber. He received his education in the Martins Ferry school system.

Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 7, 1942, serving as a Corporal with the Company C, 804th Military Police Battalion. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon, and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946.

After proudly serving his country, Mr. Barber became affiliated with Ingersoll Rand in Nashua as a Machinist, and later, consulted for the pulp and paper manufacturing industry as an Expert Troubleshooter for many years, retiring in 1984.

Dick enjoyed gardening, especially raising beautiful flowers for his wife. He also liked to golf, and on occasion, go fresh and saltwater fishing. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his cherished grandchildren. A man of exceptional character, Mr. Barber was a devoted father and grandfather who will always be remembered for his quick wit, patriotism, and love of family.

He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Granville and her husband, Dana of Pelham, NH, and Diann Barber Levis and her husband, William of Hampton, NH; a son, Charles Barber of Lowell, and his companion, Ruthann Morin of Dracut; five grandchildren, Jan Benton and her husband, Jeremy of St. Johnsbury, VT, Paula Doe and her husband, Michael of Mooresville, NC, Nadine Bogner of Houston, TX, Nicholas Granville and his wife, Katie of Windham, NH, and Evan Granville of Pelham, NH, and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Phoebe Flynn, and two brothers, Robert Barber and his wife Carol, and William Barber and his wife, Josephine, all of New Castle, PA.

He was the brother of the late Edith Helmes, Kenneth Barber, Jack Barber, and Thomas Barber.
