Myrtle I. "Babe"(Morrow) Madden
Former Co Owner of Pine Valley

Golf Club in Pelham

PELHAM, NH -- Myrtle I. "Babe" (Morrow) Madden, 95, originally from Reading, MA, but a longtime resident of Pelham, NH, died Sunday at Nashua Crossings in Nashua, NH surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Herbert Madden who died in 1993.

Born in Reading, MA on December 21, 1918, the daughter of the late Robert and the late Elizabeth (McCrea) Morrow, she attended Reading schools and was a graduate of Reading High School.

Prior to her retirement, Babe was the former proprietor of Pine Valley Golf Club in Pelham, NH, which she ran with her husband Herby, for many years. Her son Todd Madden, a life time PGA member, is currently owner/operator of the club which has been in the Madden family for over 50 years.

"Babe", as she was fondly known to everyone, was famous for her whoopee pies and other delicious home cooked goodies. In fact, everyone was always asking Babe for her recipes or trying to get her to open a bakery. When there was a Scotch Foursome Tournament at the course all the men were hoping to get Babe on their team because of her awesome putting skills! In her younger years Babe knitted and crocheted beautiful afghans that awed those who saw them. In earlier years she loved to play cards with her friends. Babe was an adoring wife; taking care of Herby who was extremely ill for several years. Additionally, she was a fantastic mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family.

A Worthy Advisor in Rainbow Girls in Reading, MA, Babe enjoyed golf, knitting, gardening, and baking, with and for family and friends.

After her husband, Herby passed, Babe continued for many years to reside alone in the home she and her husband had built in Pelham to be next to their family owned business, the golf club.

About five years ago she moved to Goffstown, NH to a senior citizen apartment building to be near her youngest daughter, Melanie, and her granddaughter, Heather.

In March 2013 Babe moved into Nashua Crossing, an assisted living community, near her daughter's place of employment, HBMS. There Babe was welcomed into a wonderful family of kind caregivers. They have been supportive to Babe and her family.

Babe is survived by her three children Sharon Pryor of Wake Forest, NC, H. Todd Madden of Pelham, NH and Melanie S. Madden of Nashua, NH; her grandchildren Tamara Madden, Jeffrey Nichols, Melissa King, Elizabeth Lafontaine, Kathryn Lawrence, Christopher Madden, and Heather Madden; her great-grandchildren Susan Nichols, Katlin, Skylar, and Ava Grace King, Andrew and Matthew Lafontaine

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Viola Quigley, Gladys Barrett, Robert and James Morrow.
