LOWELL -- Justina (Melendez) Villegas, 76, of Lowell, died unexpectedly, Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Brigham and Womens' Hospital.
A daughter of the late Guillermo and the late Julia (Marquez) Melendez, she was born July 3, 1937, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She grew up and was educated in that area.
For the past 44 years, she has made her home in Lowell. She worked with the Puerto Rican Folk Festival and volunteered with special needs children as well as with the mentally challenged. She enjoyed crocheting, hair styling, and especially enjoyed spending time making crafts with her daughter, but mostly enjoyed helping people in any way she could.
She worked as an assembler for Wang Laboratories in Lowell for many years before her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Villegas of Lowell; her brothers and sisters, Leoncia, Ana, Alberto, Julio, Jose, Juan, Julia, Carmen, Maria, and Dalila; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews as well as many friends.
She was also a sister of the late Ricardo Melendez.
