Loving husband, father, and grandfather;

WWII Navy Veteran

LOWELL -- John J. Zupkosky, of Lowell, died July 26, 2014, at Lowell General Hospital, his loving family at his side. He was the loving husband of Helen (Yanuskevich) Zupkosky with whom he would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on August 29th.

He was born in Lowell, the son of the late Joseph and Carolina (Czaikiute) Zupkosky. He received his education in the Lowell School System.

John enlisted in the United States Navy on August 3, 1943, serving aboard the USS LST 1051 and the USS SIERRA as 1st Class Gunner, arriving at Pearl Harbor the day after the Japanese attacked. He was awarded the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 1, 1946.

Returning home, he worked at the Bedford V. A. Hospital as a Psychiatric Aid for over 40 years.

John was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He also enjoyed spending time at the Lowell Senior Center, participating in many activities.

Mr. Zupkosky was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will always be remembered for his love of country and his family.

Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by a son, John G. Zupkosky of Milford, NH; a grandson, David J. and his wife, Katie Piloseno Zupkosky of Tampa, Florida; a granddaughter, Caitlyn J. Zupkosky of Milford, NH. A brother, Walter Zepkoski of Lowell, a brother-in-law, Stanley J. Yanuskevich of Nashua, a sister-in-law, Therese Zupkosky; and several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Zupkosky, Alphonse Zupkosky, Mary Zupkosky, Josie Gioia, Stanley Zepkoski, and Michael Zepkoski.

There will be no calling hours and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Mass on Wednesday at St. Margaret Church, Stevens St., at 10:30 AM. Please meet at church. Interment with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery in Hudson, NH.
