Loving mother, grandmother, sister; 90

LOWELL -- Katherine "Kay" (Scomis) Dagoumas, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2014.

Born on May 30, 1924, in Lowell, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late William and Penny Scomis. Kay is predeceased by her husband, Christy J., daughter, Jennie, and her son, William. Her early years were spent in Bennington, NH, and then she moved back to Lowell where she met the love of her life, Christy Dagoumas. They were married for 50 years.

To her family and friends she was known as "Kay" or "YiaYia". She was famous for her laughs and her meatballs. She was completely devoted to her grandchildren.

Kay worked for many years at J Dress on Middle Street in Lowell. She then moved on to Wang Labs where she retired in 1986. Kay worked side by side with her husband to give her kids a better life living in the Acre of Lowell. If she wasn't spending time with her family you would be able to find her playing Bingo or heading back from the track with her husband, Christy and her lifelong friend, Pauline Vinas. Kay was the middle of five children.

Kay also leaves her children, Stella Antonopoulos and her husband, James of Haverhill; Johnny Dagoumas and his wife, Denise of Dracut; Penny Lee and her husband, Mike of Winchendon. Kay also leaves an amazing legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will carry on her tremendous sense of determination and strength. Christy Dagoumas and her daughter, Kyra of Dracut, Angela Antonopoulos and her son, Christos of Haverhill, Kim Leblanc and her son, Josiah and daughter, Alethea of Gardner, Nick Antonopoulos and his wife, Luisa and their daughter, Pia of N. Reading, Mikey Lee and his wife, Felicia and their daughter, Lily and son, Asa of Winchendon, Gabby Lee and her daughter, Jazmyn of Gardner, Dennis Dagoumas of Dracut. Kay also leaves her sister, Georgia Lalos and her husband, Eric of Manchester; a brother, Peter Scomis of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Chick Dagoumas and his wife, Gloria of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Nick Kefaleas of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was the true matriarch of this family.

DAGOUMAS -- Relatives and friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Monday, August 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday at 9 am at the Funeral Home to be followed by a service at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
