Ollie Collins, Jr. Retired City of Lowell Weigh Master LOWELL Ollie E. Collins, Jr., 80, passed away Saturday evening, March 7, 2009 at the Wingate Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Helen F. (Bradley) Collins who died March 10, 1998. Ollie was born in Lowell on September 23, 1928, one of nine children of the late Ollie E. Collins, Sr. and Lena (Meserve) Collins. He was educated in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Mr. Collins enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in both WWII and Korea. Ollie married Helen F. Bradley in October of 1950, and celebrated 47 years of marriage. Mr. Collins worked for the Raytheon Company and later was employed by the City of Lowell Ashes and Waste as a weigh master. Ollie was a lifelong parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church. He held membership in the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, the Sacred Heart Men's Club, and the Sacred Heart Band Boosters. He also volunteered at the parish Bingo for many years. Ollie was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed college football, especially BC and Notre Dame. Ollie liked to sing and play the guitar and keyboard. He also enjoyed playing cribbage. Surviving Mr. Collins are his two daughters, Judith Minton and her husband John of Cordova, TN and Deborah Quigley and her husband John of Lowell; four grandchildren, Robert J. Clark, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Lowell, Ryan P. Clark of Cordova, TN, Matthew and Meghann Quigley of Lowell; two great grandchildren, Courtney Clark and Aiden Ly both of Lowell; his sister, Donna Shattuck and her husband Joseph of Dracut; his three brothers, Francis Collins and his wife Florence of Lowell, Kenneth Collins of Lowell, and Paul Collins of Salem, NH; several nieces and nephews, and a special family member, Kevin Clegg of Lowell. Mr. Collins was the brother of the late Carol Ralls, Virginia Francoeur, Norman Collins and Richard Collins, and brother-in-law of the late Mildred C. (Bradley) Farrell and her husband David A. Mr. Collins' Funeral will begin on THURSDAY MORNING at 9 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 o'clock at HOLY FAMILY PARISH St. MARIE'S CHURCH, corner of Chamberlain & Grafton Sts.
