LOWELL -- Joanne M. (Deane) Kelly, a resident of the Highlands section of the city, died Sept. 28, 2011, at Lowell General Hospital after a lengthy illness, aged 76 years. She was the beloved wife of William J. Kelly with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage, last June.
Born in Somerville, May 26, 1935, a daughter of the late William J. and Helena (O'Connell) Deane. She received her early education at St. Johns Grammar School in Cambridge and St. Johns High School with the Class of 1953.
Joanne worked for New England Tel. and Tel. as an operator for several years. She met William in 1953 and they married on June 2, 1956, settling in Lowell to raise their family.
Mrs. Kelly was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church in Lowell.
She loved to take trips throughout New England with Bill and family, especially to Cape Cod. Joanne also loved a good book.
Mrs. Kelly was a kind and generous person who will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, David Kelly and his wife Donna of Lowell, Kevin Kelly and his wife Sheryl of Westboro, Phillip Kelly and his wife Mai of Methuen. Three daughters, Nancy Van Alst and her husband Charles of Tyngsboro, Maria Kelly and Kathryn Kelly RN, both of Lowell. Eight cherished grandchildren, William R. Kelly, Robert L. Kelly, Chelsea E. Kelly, Olivia E. Van Alst, John P. Kelly, Alexander P. Van Alst, Allison R. Kelly and Eilleen R. Kelly. A brother, William Deane and his wife Myrna of Melrose. Also by many nieces and nephews.
