Beloved mother, grandmother,
LOWELL -- Mary E. (Manning) Donahue, 99, of Lowell, died peacefully with her family by her side Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at D'Youville Senior Care Center.
She was the widow of Joseph F. Donahue who passed away in 1964.
Born March 22, 1913, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late John, and the late Margaret (Sullivan) Manning, attended the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1931.
Mary previously resided in Cambridge, MA for many years before returning to Lowell where she was a communicant of St. Margaret Church and then Immaculate Conception Church. She was a member of the Holy Rosary, the League of Catholic Women, and the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association.
She was employed as a Secretary at the St. Paul Church in Cambridge and later, was a Secretary at The Edith Nourse Rogers School in Lowell.
Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by three children, Joseph I. Donahue and his wife, Sheleagh of Lowell, Charles A. Donahue and his wife, Stephanie of Lowell, and Ellen M. Kotzias of Lowell; a brother, Colonel James A. Manning, U.S. Army (Ret.) of Washington, DC; eight grandchildren, Julie Knight and her husband, Steve, of Dracut, Nicole Martin and her husband, Scott, of Lowell, Alexander Kotzias of Lowell, Josh Donahue and his wife, Becky, of Westford, Christin Monaghan and her husband, Brian, of Lowell, Adam Donahue and his wife, Lauren, of Andover, Jed Donahue of Boston, and Brigid Donahue of Los Angeles, CA; six great-grandchildren, Josh Martin, Colin Martin, Kyle Knight, Ryan Knight, and Ailish and Ian Donahue; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Etta Manning, the late Admiral Joseph I. Manning USN, the late John Manning, the late Neil Manning, and the late Margaret Weeks.
