DRACUT -- Richard "Dick" John Costello, 74, a lifelong resident of Dracut, MA fell asleep in death on August 6, 2012. He was the beloved husband and high school sweetheart of Janice L. (Lessieur) Costello. They celebrated 56 years of marriage on June 9, 2012. Born in Lowell, MA on October 21, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Delehanty) Costello of Dracut, MA.
Richard was educated in the Dracut school system after which he settled in Dracut to raise his family. As a young lad he was well known in the Navy Yard section of Dracut, as the local newspaper boy for the Lowell Sun before entering the U.S. Navy where he served for six years. After his discharge he returned to the Lowell Sun and worked in the newspaper composing room. He then worked at the Courier Citizen in the composing room and pressroom for 30 years. He also catered many banquets and after retirement drove the delivery truck for Packering Enterprises, Inc., in Tewksbury, MA. He was a minister and a devoted member of the Dracut Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 40 years and will be missed by all. Until his death, he loved talking about the Bible-based hope of the resurrection to life on a paradise earth. He also enjoyed gardening, sports, boating and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife, Dick is survived by his four sons and their wives: John and Faith Costello of Pelham, NH; James and Deborah Costello of Raymond, NH; Thomas and Nancy Costello of Milford, NH; and Michael and Julie Costello of Newton, NH; and five grandchildren: Caroline, Kimberly, Jennifer, Cassandra and Cameron Costello. Dick was loved by his nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his two sisters, Norma Sheppard of Dracut, MA, and Kathleen Cahill of Lowell, MA; and a brother, Walter Costello of Lowell, MA. Survivors also include his sisters-in-law: June Lurvey (husband, Kenneth) of Portsmouth, NH; Susan Foss of Pelham, NH; and Sharon L'Heureux of Dracut, MA. He is predeceased by his brother, John J. Costello of Dracut, MA; sister-in-law, Olga Costello of Lowell, MA; brothers-in-law, Robert Sheppard of Dracut, MA and William Cahill of Lowell, MA; Floyd Foss of Pelham, NH and Dennis L'Heureux of Dracut, MA.
COSTELLO -- A memorial service will be held at the Dracut Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1495 Mammoth Road, Dracut, MA on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Richard's name to the Dracut Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
