Lifelong Resident of Lowell
LOWELL -- Edna (Tikotsky) Levine, a lifelong resident of Lowell, entered into rest October 1, 2012, in Lowell, after a brief illness, aged 94 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel D. Levine.
Born in Lowell on April 1, 1918, a daughter of the late Eli and Jennie (Konicoff) Tikotsky. She received her early education in the Lowell public schools, graduating from Lowell High School with the Class of 1934. She furthered her education at the Benshimol Rickard College, graduating in 1936.
Mrs. Levine worked for a number of years with her father in the family's business, the former Ideal Racket Store of Lowell. Edna and Samuel married on February 18, 1942, settling in Lowell to raise their family. For many years, she continued to work with her parents in the family business. Later, Edna worked at Filene's in Burlington as a Senior Sales Associate in retail sales, retiring in 1985.
Edna was a member of Temple Beth El, and held Life Membership in the Hadassah and Sisterhood. She also belonged to Montefiore Synagogue and its Sisterhood. In her younger years, she was an active member of the Auxiliary of the Frank VanGreenby Post of Jewish American War Veterans.
She is survived by two sons, Laurence S. Levine, Psy.D., of Stuart, FL, and Bruce L. Levine, Ph.D., and his wife Mary Childers, Ph.D., of Hanover, NH; and two brothers, Sumner Tye and his wife Lila of Boynton Beach, FL, and Leslie Tye of Lowell, MA. A granddaughter, Adriel R. Harris and her husband Josh of Alexandria, VA; two grandsons, Justin B. Levine of Miami, FL, and Gideon N. Levine of San Francisco, CA; two great-granddaughters, twins Maeve and Camille Harris of Alexandria, VA, who shared Edna's birthday; and a special niece, Paula Flagler and her husband Howard of Westford, MA. She was the sister of the late Estelle N. Segal, and sister-in-law of the late Hyman Segal and the late Bernice Tye.
