Joseph Leo Spenard
Beloved Pepere

LOWELL -- Joseph Leo Spenard, beloved husband of Theresa P. (Goudrault) Spenard, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, following a battle with cancer. He was 75.

He was born in Lowell on July 28, 1937, a son of the late Raymond H. and Lillian M. (Bergeron) Spenard.

Leo was employed at the B & M Railroad, and retired as a supervisor of work equipment and maintenance at Amtrak after over 50 years of dedication.

Leo was a communicant and usher at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro.

He was a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, BPOE 87 for many years. He was a loveable, caring family man loved by many. After retirement, he became quite an avid cook. Leo was a sports fan, who enjoyed watching all the sports on television. He enjoyed fishing and camping all across the country when his children were small. Most of all, Leo and Theresa loved traveling and cruising. They traveled to the Caribbean islands, Africa, Alaska, South America, the Mediterranean island and traveled several times to Hawaii and the islands to visit their daughter, Diane.

Always adventurous, Leo and Theresa zip lined in Costa Rica, swam with the sting rays and snorkeled in Honduras. Until his illness, Leo was an active member of the Club Fitness Center going three times a week.

Surviving him besides his wife are his three daughters, Diane M. Ogata and her husband, Guy of Mililani, HI, Denise M. Spenard Chase and her husband, Erik of Marshall, CA, Anne-Marie Rosa and her husband, Rick of Lowell; three grandchildren, Marianne and Richie Rosa of Lowell, and Mia Chase of California; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Gerald Brownell of Norwich, NY; a sister-in-law, Nancy Spenard of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Paul Goudrault of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews in Lowell, Virginia, and New York.

He was also the brother of the late Roland Spenard.

Heartfelt thanks to the Melanoma Research Center of Boston, MA. Who went above and beyond to treat his cancer, also to our neighbors and friends and the many who showed and gave support.
