Edward M. 'Ed' Judge Jr.

NASHOBA PARK, AYER -- Edward M. "Ed" Judge, Jr., 85, of Ayer, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013. He was the husband of Helen (Pimley) Judge for the past 58 years.

Born December 8, 1927, in Tewksbury on the family farm, he was a son of the late Edward M. Judge Sr. and the late Sadie (Penney) Judge. He grew up in Belvidere, attended the Immaculate Conception School, graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1945, and graduated from Northeastern University, Class of 1956.

He joined the Navy after High School in 1945, serving as a Medical Clerk in San Diego.

As a child, Ed loved tobogganing on Fort Hill. He was very active in the Immaculate Conception Parish for many years, and was a member of the Holy Name Society and an altar server as well as an usher at the 6 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception on Sunday.

He was an avid baseball fan, loved to ski, skate, and swim. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee where he spent his Summers. He was a veracious reader who enjoyed the works of British women mystery writers.

From 1963, he made his home in Chelmsford where he raised his family. He was employed by the Courier Corporation for 40 years, and continued with the North American Directory Company (NADCO), retiring as vice president in charge of contract administration.

After his retirement in 1985, moved to Hampton Beach, and spent his retirement years traveling around the World with his wife, Helen.

In addition to his loving wife, Helen, he is survived by his daughter, Catherine Judge and her husband, John Heimo, of Fitchburg; his son, Edward 'Ned' Judge III, and his wife, Colleen (Sheehan), of Dracut; his three grandchildren; Edward John Judge and Shelagh Marie Judge, both of Dracut, and John Hendricks Heimo IV of Fitchburg; his nieces and nephews, WIlliam J. Pimley of Nashua NH, Mary Alice (Pimley) Gregoire of Dracut, and Bradford Jones and Catherine Ann Pimley of Leominster; his Godchildren, Deacon Everrett Penney of Dracut, and Susan McCallum of North Chelmsford; and he is also survived by many friends.

He was the brother of the late Ruth (Judge) Jones, and was the uncle of the late Louis (Pimley) Cronin.
