Loving wife, sister, and aunt
LOWELL -- Aphrodite "Dite" (Nigzus) (Christides) Vierkant, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died February 27, 2013, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness, aged 81 years. She was the beloved wife of Henry J. Vierkant, with whom she would have celebrated 35 years of marriage on July 28th.
Born in Lowell, February 5, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Astergios and Ourania (Bouchu) Nigzus. She received her early education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1951.
In her youth, she worked for her brother at Centralville Laundry. For over 20 years, Dite was employed by the former MCF Electronics in Lowell with the quality control department, until she retired in 1995. More recently, Mrs. Vierkant was associated with the Foster Grandparent Program of Community Teamwork Inc. of Lowell, and the Campbell School in Dracut.
Dite was an active, devout member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell. She also created costumes for the National Park 2000 event, and volunteered at the Tsongas Work Center and at several Lowell Folk Festivals.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, James Nigzus and his wife, Charlotte (Kratimenos) of Lowell; three nephews, Steve Nigzus and his husband, George Triantaris of Harvard, Jim Nigzus (her Godson) and his wife, Karen of Dracut, and Charles Nigzus and his wife, Colleen of Harvard; grandnieces and grandnephews, Christine Nigzus and James Peter Nigzus (her Godson), both of Dracut, and James, William and Thomas Nigzus, all of Harvard, MA.
She was the wife of the late Paul J. Christides, and mother of the late Joanne and John Christides.
VIERKANT -- In Boston, February 27, 2013. Aphrodite "Dite" (Nigzus) (Christides) Vierkant, of Lowell, aged 81 years. She was the beloved wife of Henry J. Vierkant. Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd., the Highlands of Lowell, on Tuesday from 3 to 7 PM. Mrs. Vierkant's funeral will be held at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Lowell, on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
