Leonard Joseph Shokum
CHELMSFORD -- Leonard Joseph Shokum, 90, of Chelmsford, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus, after a brief illness.
He was married to the late Patricia (Donoghue) Shokum, who died on April 13, 2008.
Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late John and Sophie Shokum. He graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1940.
He proudly served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Leonard worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Hospital in Bedford for many years before retiring in 1989.
Leonard was dedicated to his family and will be remembered as a gentleman who loved to make people laugh.
He was an avid reader, and had a love for the beach.
He is survived by a son, Leonard G. Shokum and his wife, Julie D'Andrea of Andover; a daughter, Julie Shokum and her husband, Mark Higgins of Chelmsford; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Shokum, Dorothy Stapanowich, and Anne Coburn.
