Theresa M. (Robbins) Vergakes
Paul D. Vergakes Sr. and Theresa M. (Robbins) Vergakes, both 86, passed away on Saturday, March 16th, at their home in Boston.
Paul and Theresa were born in Dorchester, MA, a week apart in 1926. Paul was born on August 28th to Madeline (Murray) and Paul E Vergakes, and Theresa on September 5th to Mabel (Connelly) and Fredrick Robbins.
Theresa received her education in the Boston Public School system and Paul was educated in Dorchester and was a graduate of Boston Latin High School. Paul continued his education at Boston College, first receiving his Bachelors in Science and then completing his Masters in Business at Rutgers.
Paul proudly served his country until his honorable discharge as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Paul and Theresa were married on August 23rd, 1952. They then moved to North Reading where they resided for more that 24 years, where Paul served on on the Board of Selectman and Theresa was the president of the Garden Club. They then moved back to Boston, where they have lived for the last 30 years.
Until their retirement Theresa was employed as an Executive Secretary at Mass College of Art and Paul as the Vice President at Shawmut Bank.
Paul and Theresa enjoyed spending time with their close-knit family and at their home in Stockton Springs, ME. Both were avid Red Sox fans and enjoyed going to games at Fenway Park. Paul also greatly enjoyed watching CNN and loved BC Football.
Paul was an especially thoughtful and caring husband, providing devoted care for Theresa for the last several years.
Paul and Theresa are survived by their son Paul D. Vergakes, Jr. and his wife Karen of Dracut, their granddaughter Nikki Theresa Vergakes, as well as Paul's sister Claire Ashe of Jamacia Plain, and several nieces and nephews.
VERGAKES -- Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, March 20th from 3-8 p.m. at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave, DRACUT. Their funeral will take place from the funeral home on Thursday March 21st at 8 a.m., with their funeral mass to be celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. Rita Church in LOWELL. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Paul and Theresa's memory to The Veteran's Administration, 150 S. Huntington Ave, Boston MA 02130.
