NAPLES, FL -- Frederick J. Oczkowski, age 80, of Naples, FL, passed away March 16, 2013 after battling esophageal cancer for several months. He was born in Chelmsford, MA to the late Charles and Helen Oczkowski. During his military career, he served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1949 - 1956 aboard the USS Columbus. He later retired as a US Coast Guard Commander, serving from 1956 - 1992 in the Marine Safety Office in Providence, RI. His civilian career began as a US Secret Service agent from 1956 - 1957, during President Eisenhower's administration. He also served with the US Marshals Service from 1957 - 1983 and retired as a Chief Deputy US Marshal from Providence, RI. He was a figure in Norman Rockwell's 1964 painting depicting school desegregation - titled, "The problem we all live with." He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his children, Linda Ray, Frederick, Jr. (and wife Cathy), John (and partner Jayme) and Robert; also surviving is his brother Joseph (and wife Irene).
