PALM BAY, FL -- William "Bill" F. McLaughlin, 84, a resident of Palm Bay, FL, formerly of Westford, MA, died April 18, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on February 9, 1929 in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Edward P. and Mary (O'Keefe) McLaughlin.
He was the devoted husband of Marie C. McLaughlin with whom he shared over 67 years of marriage.
Bill served proudly in the US Marine Corps from 1946 - 1948, after which he worked as a shop engineer for Middlesex Truck and Coach in Cambridge for over 40 years. In Florida, Bill was an active member of the Palm Bay V-COPS serving as director of the command center. Bill was a member of the Greater Palm Bay Senior Center where he served on the board of directors and as volunteer building superintendent for over 10 years. While a resident of Westford Bill coached youth baseball and St. John's C.Y.O. softball.
Bill will be remembered as a loving husband and father who enjoyed his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, William Jr. and wife Mary of Ocala, FL, Robert of Houston, TX, Carol Knutson and her husband, Robert of Lowell, MA, Richard of Westford, MA, Dawn Martell and her husband, Michael of Chelmsford, MA, Diane Monahan and her husband, Kevin of Nashua, NH, Keith of Westford, MA, Kevin of Westford, MA; 19 grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sisters, Marie MacKenzie and Diane McLaughlin. Bill was also the father of the late Lynne McLaughlin of Westford, MA, and brother of the late Edward McLaughlin.
MCLAUGHLIN -- In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Hospice of Health First, Palm Bay, 32901 or Myelodysplastics Syndrome Foundation Inc. 4573 South Broad St., Suite 150 Yardville, NJ 08620. A memorial gathering will be held on May 18, 2013 from 1-3 pm in the function hall at the Nabnasset Lake Country Club, 47 Oak Hill Rd., Westford, MA 01886.
