G. Douglas Golden Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather -- and Brother; U. S. Navy Veteran of -- World War II and the Korean War -- LOWELL -- G. Douglas Golden, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died June 26, 2013, in Lowell, aged 86 years. He was the beloved husband of Anne S. (Stowell) Golden, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage. Born in Lowell, March 4, 1927, a son of the late Frank P. and Blanche (Sullivan) Golden. He received his early education in the Lowell school system, but left school at the beginning of World War II to serve his country. Upon his return from service, he went on to earn his GED. Mr. Golden enlisted in the U. S. Navy on March 4, 1945, his 18th birthday. He participated in the Okinawa invasion, after which he served aboard the USS Oriskany (CV-34) in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Korean War. He was awarded the Nation Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1954. He became affiliated with Offset Printing in Lowell, and later, as an employee with the City of Lowell. George was a member of the Walker Rogers Post 662, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of St. Margaret Church, a member of the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, and was an Altar Server for many years. He was a kind, generous man who will always be remembered for his devotion to family and for his strong faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Timothy Golden of Lowell; three grandchildren, Lindsay A. Golden, Molly M. Golden and Madeline K. Golden, all of Lowell, and a sister, Norma Boucher of Colorado Springs. He was the brother of the late Francis Golden, Mary Johnson, Hazel Brady, Myrtle Coit, Virginia Welch and Shirley Roper. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Margaret Church, Lowell, at 9:30 AM.
