Edward P. 'Ted' Mangan of Chelmsford; 84 -- CHELMSFORD -- Edward P. 'Ted' Mangan, 84, of Chelmsford, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital. He was married to the late Eleanor G. (Roark) Mangan, who passed away May 4, 1992, and the late Eleanor A. (Gath) Mangan, who passed away June 9, 2010. A son of the late George F. and the late Mabel (Delehanty) Mangan, he was born July 6, 1929, in Lowell and was educated in the local schools, attended Lowell High School, and entered to serve with the United States Navy during World War II from high school. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Lowell and married Eleanor Roark. Together they enjoyed dancing and won many competitions at the Commodore Ballroom. Ted also attained a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Bentley College. Mr. Mangan was a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 662 Walker Rogers as well as a lifetime member of the SAC Club. His passion and full time hobby was politics, and he spent many days and nights helping with Democratic campaigns throughout the area. He also enjoyed attending City Council meetings. Family was most important to Ted, and he especially enjoyed spending lots of time at Hampton Beach with family and friends. He worked for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue as a State Auditor and was a Notary Public as well as a legal courier. In 2000 he married Eleanor Gath, with whom he shared many happy years. He is survived by his children, Edward P. Mangan Jr. of Columbia, TN, Michael G. Mangan and his wife, Martha, of Chelmsford, Patricia J. Dungan and her husband, Lee, of Chelmsford, and Mary Eileen Mangan, PhD, of Somerville; eight grandchildren, Christol Mangan of San Jose, CA, Patrick Mangan and his wife, Marti, of Sacramento, CA, Jennifer Byrne and her husband, Mark, of Nashua, NH, Maura Mangan of Portsmouth, NH, Scott Mangan of Quincy, Julie Mangan of Chelmsford, Philip Ilchuk and his wife, Jennifer, of Dracut, and Peter Ilchuk and his wife, Danielle, of Pittsburgh, PA; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Eleanor Chambers of Port St. Lucie, FL, his brother, George Mangan of Bethany, DE; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, and friends. Besides his wives, he is also predeceased by his brother Thomas Mangan. -- MANGAN -- YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON THURSDAY, JULY 18.
