CHELMSFORD -- John L. Sullivan, 78, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at home.
He was the beloved husband of Audrey M. (Webb) Sullivan, who died in 1998.
He was born in Malden on August 7, 1935, and was a son of the late John J. and Mildred (Wall) Sullivan. He received his education in Malden schools and was a graduate of Malden High School, class of 1953.
John served his country in the United States Air Force.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 30 years as a store manager for Stuart's Department Store. He then went on to work for NHD Hardware Store. Earlier in his career he was employed by S.S. Kresge Department Store.
John enjoyed deep sea fishing, playing cribbage, learning about history, watching all of the Boston sports teams, playing softball, singing Karaoke, scratch tickets, and playing his numbers.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Fitchburg, Council 99, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Billerica.
John is survived by his three children, Karen Baroody and her husband, Chris of Melrose, Kevin Sullivan and his wife, Amanda of Blackstone; and Kathy Maes of Nashua; four grandchildren, Cory, Andrew, and Kaitlyn Sullivan, and Patrick Maes; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Helen Sullivan of Bluffton, SC; his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Ronald Lewis of Gardner; his companion, Doris Lovejoy of Chelmsford; and several nieces and nephews.
SULLIVAN -- JOHN L. Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, on Thursday from 4 until 8 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
