Thomas Joseph Harding
formerly of Lowell; 94

NEWBURYPORT -- Thomas Joseph Harding, 94, of Newburyport, died early Monday morning, September 9, 2013 at Anna Jaques Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born in Lowell, October 24, 1918, he was the son of the late John W. and Mary J. (Welch) Harding and was a graduate of Lowell Technical School.

Mr. Harding was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy from April 9, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 27, 1945 with the rank of Electronics Mate 2nd Class, and had been stationed in the South Pacific.

After his military service he went to work for Sears & Roebuck in Lowell, where he was the service technician/manager, retiring after 42 years of service.

As an accomplished figure skater, he enjoyed many hours on the ice, perfecting and improving his moves always aspiring for greater accomplishments. He was also an avid sports fan, especially interested in baseball. He was a veritable walking encyclopedia of baseball facts. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends, whether having a quiet conversation, or backyard cook-out, sports event or holiday celebration, memories were made, shared, remembered and treasured.

His survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Estelle A. (Lyons) Harding of Newburyport; his son, Daniel T. Harding and wife Catherine of Amesbury; his sister, Christina Frawley of Dracut, along with several nieces, nephews and many dear friends, all of whom will truly miss him.
