of Chelmsford; formerly of Acton; 71

CHELMSFORD -- Marilyn Joan (Carissimo) Merna, 71, of Chelmsford and formerly of Acton, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Emerson Hospital in Concord.

She was the beloved wife of Retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Robert L. Merna.

She was born in Rome, NY on July 14, 1942 and was a daughter of the late John and Virginia Anne (Kanowski) Carissimo.

Prior to her retirement, Marilyn was employed as a Manufacturing Manager for many years by Lau Technologies in Acton and Littleton. She was active in the Officer's Wives Club, as well as in the PTO and all of her children's sports and activities. Her family came first and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her loving husband, Marilyn is survived by her children; Richard D. Merna and his wife Corlene M. of Chelmsford, Colleen A. Stansfield and her husband Eric D. of Chelmsford, and Allison M. Cimon and her husband Robert C. Jr. of Bolton; 6 grandchildren; Michael and Megan Merna, Jack, Bobby, and Erin Stansfield, and Sarah Cimon. She also leaves two sisters; Camille Guglielmo and her husband Ronald of Rome, NY, and Patricia Ripley of NJ.

MERNA -- MARILYN JOAN (CARISSIMO). Visiting hours on Wednesday from 3 to 7 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 o'clock at Heart Pond Cemetery, Garrison Road, Chelmsford.
