Joseph Middlemiss Obituary

Joseph Scott Middlemiss
Loving son, brother, grandson

DRACUT -- Joseph Scott "Joey" Middlemiss, age 6 years, of Dracut, grew his Angel Wings on Monday, September 23, 2013.

He was born in Lowell, MA on May 31, 2007. He was the beloved son of Katherine and Scott Middlemiss, and the proud brother of Jack. Joey's infectious laugh and curly-lashed blue eyes were never happier than the day his baby brother was born. His special heart held a wisdom and empathy far beyond his six years.

Joe was a student at the Tyngsboro Elementary School, where he spent many happy days alongside his many friends, as well as his dad, Scott, who is the principal.

Music was a constant in Joey's life, a gifted drummer, music soothed him, excited him and allowed him to communicate in a way that words could not. Possibly the only thing that brought Joe more joy than bangin' out a Beatles rhythm on his drums was the time he spent with his precious cousins, Cori, Tyler, CC, Sam, Molly, Chloe, Cash, and Westin.

Joey loved Star Wars, Spider-Man, his iPad, Ninja Turtles, crab fishing at "his" cottage in Maine, and riding his dune buggy, but most of all he loved his family. His spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all he touched.

"This is the best day of my life," Joey added to his evening prayers. He demonstrated a passion for living each day to the fullest, exuberating joy that reached out and touched each of our hearts.

In addition to his parents, Kate and Scott, and his brother, Jack, he is also survived by his loving grandparents, David and Joyce Middlemiss of Haverhill, and Charles and Louise Daigle of Dracut.

He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Keith and Liz Middlemiss of California, Tracy Dubois of Dracut, Jillian Middlemiss and Kim Morast of Woburn, Ryan Middlemiss of Lowell, Elizabeth and Alfred Nutile of Lowell, and John and Amanda Daigle of Dracut. He is also survived by many cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, classmates, and friends.

He was predeceased by his uncle, Jeffrey Middlemiss, who he is trading jokes with up in Heaven.

MIDDLEMISS -- Family and friends are invited to attend Joey's Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday morning, September 28, 2013 at 10 o'clock at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Rd., Dracut.

His family encourages all those whose lives were touched by Joe to attend a celebration of his life at the Vesper Country Club, 185 Pawtucket Blvd., Tyngsboro, following his Funeral Mass from 11:30 to 4:00 P.M., to show your support for his family and to share in his loving memory.

Donations in his memory may be made to The Joseph Scott Middlemiss Big Heart Fund, c/o Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, 1345 Lakeview Ave., Dracut, MA 01826.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of the ARCHAMBAULT FUNERAL HOME, Lowell, MA, (978) 459-9315.

I have no words to express the sadness I feel for the family. Thoughts and prayers for all of those hurting. Joey was an amazing young boy!!!

From J and Amy Perry

September 30, 2013

“I'll lend you for a while, a child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.”
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there, I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over in My search for teacher's true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, not think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call, to take him back again?”
I fancied that I heard them say “Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand!”

Dearest Middlemiss family,

I am sadden about the loss of Joey and am writing this with a very heavy heart, tears coming down my face and thinking about the all you have been through/going through.

We are all miracles of GOD
We are born as his little Miracles
And it does not matter how many years we are here, we live our life as Miracles of GOD.
Unfortunately, God takes our miracles at various points, some too early, like in Joey's case.
But they are still a Miracle now looking down upon us all always. Keep his memory alive always throuh pictures, books, stories and whatever he enjoyed. He will be in our hearts, minds and soul forever.

May his miracle of Life show us all what an incredible boy is was and will continue to be, but in heaven.

"When God calls little children
to dwell with him above,
We mortals sometime question
the wisdom of his love
For no heartache compares with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world,
seem wonderful and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud,
before he can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so he takes but a few
To make the land of Heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult still
somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye."
So when a little child departs
we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children,
Angels are hard to find"

Scott, My thoughts and prayers have been with you and Kate. Please hold on to your faith and surround yourself with the love from family and friends. God bless Joe and his little brother Jack.... I will continue to hold you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Scott & Kate,

I can hardly type I'm so sad to hear this news. So shocked and saddened beyond explanation. Scott, I remember you writing me on Facebook (which I no longer use) a couple years ago when we lost our infant son at birth. Your words were comforting and I always remembered you writing & talking about Joey, and how incredible he is. He's one amazing, strong, loving child taken to heaven far too soon. I know there's nothing anyone can say that really helps, but I'll tell you this: It's true...he will always be with you and your family in all you do, protecting, guiding and constantly inspiring you all. Sometimes, when you least expect it yet need it most.

Warm Regards,
George

Scott & Kate,

I am not going to even pretend to know what the two of you are going through right now. I do know this, my heart hurts for the two of you and your family. Although I never met Joe I always enjoyed reading & watching Scott's posts about him and their adventures. Especially the ones that show the complete and utter excitement when baby Jack was born. I am truelly sorry for your loss and my thoughts have been with the two of you and your family ever since I heard the news. I am sure Uncle Jeff was waiting for Joe up in heaven with arms open and the two of them are looking down on everyone right now.

My Deepest Sympathies,

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.

It makes no sense to ever ask 'why?', because there are no answers other than to know in your heart that you were blessed to be chosen by God to love him and take care of him for as long as God blessed this world with him. God only chooses special people to have such "special" children. Only parents of a terminally ill child can understand and know what a privilege it was to have had them. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathy for yur unbelievable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Susan & Gary Letourneau

Dear Kate & Scott,
We have such heavy hearts for you. I believe your angle, Joey, will forever be with you every day and guide Jack as the best older brother ever. Thank you for allowing us to be part of Joey's life in a little way. We have such fond memories of Joey's excitement and laughter when we would see him at Footbridge crabbing and can still see his beaming face during last year's fourth of July fireworks. The boys had such fun with him!
Please accept our sincere condolences as we keep you in our thoughts and prayers. He was one of a kind and oh, so special!

Clearly there are no words to console any of you at this time. Just know that there are many out there that would drop anything to be by your sides and help with anything that you may need.

Joe was a brilliant boy with an infectious smile and a personality that is unmatchable. He will be missed.
