Robert J. 'Bob' Morrill
U.S. Navy Veteran
OCEANSIDE, CA -- Robert James Morrill, of Oceanside, CA, died Oct. 1, 2013, at Scripps-Green Medical Center in San Diego, CA, after a brief illness.
Born in Lowell, MA on May 22, 1944, the son of Anna T. (Molloy) and Robert H. Morrill, Bob attended Lowell public schools, graduating from Lowell High with the class of 1961. After high school, he attended Northern Essex CC, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Hancock, and also the USS Bon Homme Richard during the Vietnam War.
In 1966, he married Margery Barbara "Sue" Lallas, with whom he would have celebrated his 47th wedding anniversary on October 8th.
After returning from the Navy, Bob continued his college studies taking evening classes at Suffolk University, attaining his BS degree while he was beginning a long and distinguished career as an executive with Microwave Associates and M/A-COM of Burlington, MA. In 1986, he was instrumental in leading a management leveraged buyout of the company's communications equipment group which became Microwave Radio Communications (MRC), a highly successful worldwide provider of equipment to television broadcasters.
Bob was a dynamic and charismatic company leader and very popular with his employees during his tenure as President of MRC. He always placed a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a sense of humor in his workforce, over diplomas, awards, or skill sets.
Bob was a sport enthusiast, enjoying skiing with family and friends, especially on memorable annual trips out west. After retiring from MRC, Bob and Margery moved to Sarasota, FL, and he took up golf with the passion he ran his business with, finally realizing his goal of "breaking 90". Recently, Margery and Bob moved to Oceanside, CA to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Margery, Bob leaves a daughter, Jennifer Long, and her husband, Brian of Carlsbad, CA; a son, Jeremy, and his wife, Rachel of Austin, TX. Also, two adored grandchildren, Robyn of Carlsbad, CA, and Jacob of Austin, TX. Bob also leaves a brother, Gerard, his wife, Patrice and their daughter, Mallory of Pepperell, MA; a brother in law, William Lallas and his wife, Pat of Manchester, NH. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, ret. Lowell Fire Captain, Mike Murphy of Sarasota, FL.
Services will be in California. in lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to please donate blood in Bob's memory to your local Red Cross.
