Robert Benjamin (Bob) Austin
of Billerica, MA; 84

BILLERICA -- Robert Benjamin (Bob) Austin, 84, of Billerica, MA, died on Monday, November 25 after a brief illness.

Born in Arlington, MA on May 18, 1929, he was the son of Eleanor (Kenney) Austin and Thomas Austin. Bob attended Billerica public schools and was a 1947 graduate of Howe High School in Billerica. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he attended and graduated from Boston College, class of 1956. Bob was a proud alumnus and avid booster of BC, especially BC football, as anyone who met him soon learned. He was a member of the Howe/Billerica Memorial High School Alumni Association and the Boston College Alumni Association.

Following his graduation from Boston College, Bob worked as an Account Executive for SS Pierce and resided in Brockton, MA. He later worked for gourmet food distributors Charlotte Charles and Haddon House, residing briefly in Mt. Kisco, NY and for many years in West Carrollton, OH. Upon his retirement, Bob returned to Billerica and resided there until his death.

Among his many interests, Bob was a musician and avid music fan, especially of Big Band and Polka. He played the drums in various bands around Boston during his college days, helping to put himself through school. Bob also loved to discuss and share his love of gourmet foods, notably of cheese and chocolate.

His survivors include his daughter Lori and her husband Richard Gingras of Dracut, MA, his beloved granddaughter Abbey Gingras of Dracut, MA, and his sons John Austin of Carlisle, OH, Mark Austin of Santa Monica, CA, and Brian Austin of North Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by his sister Janice and her husband Abdul Rahimi of Washington, DC, as well as by several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his sister Virginia Wrobel of Billerica, MA and by his brothers Thomas (Ted) Austin of Billerica and Donald Austin of Sierra Vista, AZ.

AUSTIN -- At his request, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Thursday morning, Dec. 5 at 9 o'clock at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to the Boston College Alumni Association, c/o Cadigan Alumni Center, 2121 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02125.
