LOWELL -- William Edward "Bill" Largy, a Highlands resident, passed away on Monday morning, January 27, 2014 at the Fairhaven Health Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie L. (Butler) Largy.

William was born in Dracut on August 9, 1932, a son of the late William E. and Yvonne (Gauthier) Largy. Bill attended the Lowell Public Schools. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and received the Korean, National Defense, and the United Nations Service Medals. Sgt. Largy was honorably discharged in 1954.

For 33 years Bill was employed by the U.S. Government at the Bedford V.A. Hospital as a Grounds Foreman and the Golf Course Superintendent - now Hanscom's Patriot Golf Course.

Bill attended school in Williamsport, PA to become a Certified Umpire for the Highlands Little League. He also attended school in the evenings at Lowell Tech (UMASS Lowell) to be certified in Hard Ball and Soft Ball Games. Bill was a member of the Greater Lowell Umpire's Association and the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of New England.

Following his retirement, Bill went to work for the City of Lowell Police Department for 19 years as a Crossing Guard at the Morey School in the Highlands Neighborhood. Mr. Largy loved this duty and just retired from this position on December 20, 2013.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed playing pool and spending summers in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his wife and family.

Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie L. (Butler) Largy of Lowell; his son James "Jay" Largy and his wife Nicole of Dracut; and his grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Largy and William James Largy of Dracut. Mr. Largy was the father of the late Mark H. Largy who died on November 8, 2013.

LARGY -- At Mr. Largy's request, all services were held privately.
