Loving father and grandfather;
U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran of WWII
LOWELL -- Nelson E. "Nellie" Warner, a resident of D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell, a longtime former resident of Dracut, died peacefully on January 30, 2014, at Lowell General Hospital, his loving family at his side, aged 87 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Eveline M. (Whitney) Warner, who passed away in October of 2000, after sharing 53 years of marriage.
Born in E. Hampstead, NH, on October 27, 1926, a son of the late John S. and Edith M. (Clough) Warner. He was educated in the Lowell Public Schools.
Nelson served his country as a U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was proud of his "eight years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard".
Nelson retired from Massachusetts Electric Company after 36 years of service.
Known affectionately to many as "Papa", Nelson always reminded everyone to "Never lose that smile!"
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of D'Youville Senior Care - especially the Special Care Unit, for the compassion and dedication they gave Nelson while he was in their care.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Warner and Garland Kemper of Lowell, and two daughters, Linda Gaetano and her partner, Joseph Dooley of Nashua, NH, and Wendy Ratcliffe of Holden; four grandsons, Greg C. Gaetano and his wife, Katie, Matthew Warner and his partner, Sarah Hayes, Benjamin Ratcliffe and his wife, Amanda, and Timothy Warner and his wife, Eun Young Kim; a granddaughter, Katherine Ratcliffe; a great-grandson, Bryan Ratcliffe, and two great-granddaughters, Quinn Warner and Lizzie Warner.
He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews; and his "boys", Binky and Bagger.
He was the brother of the late Norman Warner, Evelyn Willard, Mabel Kelly, Thelma Masker and Marion Stone.
