Obituaries from the Past Week

Jones, Richard
Richard Henry Jones Leslie Passed away November 15, 2014 at Allegiance Health Care in Jackson surrounded by his family at the age of 71. Richard was born in Jackson on November 21, 1942 to Henry and Esther Jones and lived his entire life in Leslie. He was a General Motors retiree and a life-long farmer. Richard often said, "He liked the smell of dirt in the spring when he plowed." He also loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling and had a great passion for tractor pulling, as well as collecting antique tractors (known to his family as "Putt Putt"). His family and friends referred to him as the man who could fix anything! One of Richard's greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren, Zach, Brooke and Hunter. He taught his two daughters, Pat and Dayna to have a love for the great outdoors, as they shared many of his same passions. Richard also often spent time with his two son-in-laws, Troy and Kevin, who he cherished as his own. His most "precious joy," was spending quality time with his loving wife, Doris of 49 years. The family requests that casual attire be worn at his service to honor Richard's memory. Richard is survived by his wife, Doris (Hill); daughters, Patricia (Troy) James, Dayna (Kevin) Montroy; 3 grandchildren, Zachary James, Brooke  James, Hunter Montroy and his special little canine companion, Baylee, who he rode the farm with daily on his quad; 2 very special friends, Don (Marlene) Gray and Tom (Susie) Gray, who he considered as brothers and called his "Life Savers." They worked together almost daily farming or cutting wood. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother and sister. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Graveside services and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Leslie. Memorial contributions can be made to Allegiance Health Care, 205 N. Ave., Jackson, MI 49201 or the American Heart Association, 210 Woodland Pass East Lansing, MI 48823. The family would like to thank all of Richard's doctors over the years, and a very special thanks to Dr. Macha, MD, FACS and Dr. Simonetti, MD, FACS, and all of the health team at the Cub Unit (Heart Center) at Allegiance Health in Jackson.
