Obituaries from the Past Week

French, Alan - Mason, Formerly Of Livonia
Alan James French Alan James French, age 72, was called home unexpectedly on July 17, 2016.  Excited to greet him at Heaven's Gate were his wife and best friend Gerrie, his brothers Ron French, Jim Cook, and David Gamble and sisters; Phyllis Martin and Janet Gamble.  His loving parents, Everett and Bernice French (Burris) are now happily reunited with Alan.  Left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are; his sister Betty Cook and brother Jack Martin, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews as well as his many friends. Alan was the fourth child of five born unto the French family. Alan graduated from Mason high school in 1962.  In 1966 he began to bravely serve our country in the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Army's First Infantry Division, Company C, 47th Engineering Battalion.  Upon his return from War he eventually landed a job driving a gravel train for LaFave Trucking and Excavating.   Anyone who was blessed to know Alan knew he was the life of any gathering.  People always felt better when Al was around.   He was generous with his servant's heart - caring for many family members and friends, and with his love, by never being shy about letting people know how much they meant to him and how much he enjoyed everyone's company. Alan's unexpected passing leaves a great void in many of his friends' and family's hearts. We all know that he would not want us to mourn his loss, but to celebrate all of the hilarious and crazy memories that he helped to create.  A celebration of his life will start this Friday, July 22 with a visitation at 11:00, followed directly at noon with a remembrance service located at Skinner Funeral Home, 101 West Jolly Road, Lansing, Michigan.  Friends and family are encouraged to sign his online guest book at www.skinnerfuneralhome.com .  In lieu of flowers people may make a contribution to the Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org .  (Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment)
