Davis, Lawrence
Lawrence A. (Larry) Davis Sunfield Lawrence A. (Larry) Davis (76) of Sunfield, Michigan, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 17th surrounded by his family. He was a very special man, beloved husband of Sonja and father of Rashell Johnson (Tom) of Concord, Blake (Natalie) of Gaylord, and Brandon (Yvette) of Sunfield. He was loved by his grandchildren Drew (Stephanie) and Derek Johnson, and Aaron (Ricki), Jared, Madelyn, Hanna, and Violet Davis, and great-grandchildren Grant and Evan Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Rodney Davis of Lansing. Larry was born on May 10, 1938, in Lake Odessa, Michigan, to Cleo and Wilma Davis, but spent much of his childhood with his great grandmother Mary Alice Sayers. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, great grandmother, step-mother Josephine Davis, step-father Andy Bryson, and sister Georgia Benham. Larry graduated from Sunfield High School in 1955, and served in the United States Army. He began his career with General Motors. He left GM for Diamond Reo Truck and after several promotions became Manufacturing Manager of Diamond Reo and Vice President and Director of Operations at Sherman Manufacturing. He was the owner of Hanna Davis Fine Meats in Sunfield and also worked in sales with Great Lakes Water treatment. Those who knew Larry at all, know he liked to take charge and always had an idea about how to improve things. His former boss at Sherman once wrote to him and said that he took a hold of a mucky task and quickly worked things out, and did not settle for mediocrity. His favorite thing was to enjoy time with his family, and was always trying to organize trips for as many of them as possible to be together. He applied the same management style to his family that he did to his work, and never did anything halfway. He was known as Santa Claus at Christmas and made all birthdays and holidays true celebrations. He sacrificed much to ensure his wife and children had everything they wanted or needed. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and the annual Ludington camping trip was a family tradition passed on to the next generation. Although he leaves a huge void, his family and friends will be left with many precious memories. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. - Friday November 21, 2014 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. - Thursday November 20, 2014 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, MI. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sunfield United Methodist Church, or Lakewood Area Community Christmas basket fund: c/o Rosier Funeral Home PO Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890. The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home.
