Gable, Edna
Edna Gable Edna Gable (nee' Jorgensen), age 85, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 in Grand Haven, Michigan. Edna was born in East Detroit, Michigan to Jorgen and Edna Jorgensen.  After graduating from Ferndale High School, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida State University in 1950. A year later she earned a Master of Arts Degree in General Business from Michigan State College, and went on to become a buyer for the J. L. Hudson company in Detroit, Michigan. She married Frederick Gable in 1955 and made their home in Okemos, Michigan. After Fred's retirement in 1985, Edna and Fred moved to DeTour Village, Michigan and spent twenty years enjoying the beauty of Lake Huron and the eastern upper peninsula. They moved to Spring Lake, Michigan in 2006 to be closer to their family. Edna was always a bit ahead of her time, being taught from an early age by her father to fix nearly anything and to believe in her abilities. She was a successful career woman who had no regrets in leaving her business aspirations to become a dedicated, full-time mom. She was active in her church and lived out her faith and devotion to God and Christ. She always looked toward the future. She loved to sing and play piano. She loved to travel. She loved to swim, play golf, and tennis. But most of all she loved her family with all her heart, always taking pride in her children and grandchildren. She and Frederick were married for 58 years until his death in 2013.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Vollbrecht, and her special cousin Kenneth Wacker. She is survived by her sons Stephen Gable of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Philip (Dorothy) Gable of Urbana, Illinois, and Michael (Jennifer) Gable of Spring Lake, Michigan, and grandchildren Lauren, David, Cameron, and Jillian, and many nieces and nephews.  A memorial service for Edna will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Michael Goers officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Lutheran World Relief or the Great Lakes Golden Retriever Rescue. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.vbkfuneralhome.com . The family is being served by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Spring Lake.
