Jessie Scates Obituary

Jessie Lee Scates Lansing Age 76, was born April 16, 1934 in Bessemer, AL to Tandy and Lillian Jenkins and passed away on January 24, 2011. Ms. Scates retired from Michigan State University laundry department where she was a Lead Checker for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of Lansing Church of God in Christ since the early 1950's. She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Sheila Simpkins; mother and father; and six brothers and sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Archie Scates, Larry (Kim) Scates and Brice (Lisa) Scates; daughters, Lisa (Gerald) Potter and Latina Scates; grandson, Tywon Scates, whom she raised as her own child; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Jenkins; 3 sister in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may visit Ms. Scates Friday, January 28, 12 - 6 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29, 1 p.m., at Lansing COGIC, 5304 Wise Road, with Bishop Samuel Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral.
