Carrol Frederick Benedict

Carrol Frederick Benedict Vermontville Carrol Frederick Benedict, 97, of Vermontville, passed away at his home with his children by his side on Sunday, March 31, 2013. He was born October 2, 1915 in rural Vermontville to Ernest and Etta (Walsh) Benedict. Carrol (known to many as Curt) grew up on his family's farm north of Vermontville, the youngest of three. He graduated from Vermontville High School in 1933. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1939, where he served as a military policeman overseas during World War II through 1945. On December 12, 1947 Carrol married Barbara Grant and they raised their five children on his Centennial farm where he lived and farmed the rest of his life. Carrol loved to see his crops grow and harvested. He enjoyed playing cards and many years of bowling and pitching horse shoes. He also enjoyed many winters at his Nokomis, FL home with Barbara. Carrol is survived by his children Anita (Pat) Hayes, Lucy (Jack) Baker, Curt John (Ruth) Benedict, Brad (Dawn) Benedict, and Jan (Debbi) Benedict; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2006, his parents, sister Helen (Evert) Steward, brother Harold (Edith) Benedict and infant daughter Claudia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013.
