Delbert Edward Roper

Delbert Edward Roper Charlotte Delbert Edward Roper, 92, formerly of Lansing, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, August 21, 2013. The son of Delbert and Delia Roper, he was born on October 19, 1920 in Cadillac Michigan. He married Leona Jane Keeley in 1940 and they had six children. After her death he married Naomi Thompson in 1992. After her death he married Mary Fullerton in 2005. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, proudly serving as a submariner. Later he was a design engineer for Industrial Metal Products Corp. (IMPCO) of Lansing for 28 years, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed his years as a leader in the Boy Scouts and the Sea Cadets. He loved working a garden, golfing, and nature hikes. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and Redwings. He attended Crossroads United Brethren Church of Charlotte. He is survived by his wife Mary (Fullerton) Roper, daughter Dorothy Bates of Charlotte, sons Bruce (Jean) Roper of Eaton Rapids and Kevin (Cynthia) Roper of Haslett, daughter-in-law Judi Roper of Lansing, along with 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren .He is also survived by three brothers, Richard, Gene (Louise), and Marvin (Kaye), three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Roper, Iris Roper, and Joyce Brown and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Arlene and Joyce, and brothers Keith and Robert, wives Leona and Naomi, sons Larry and Delbert Leonard and daughter Francis Clark. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00a.m. at Crossroads United Brethren Church , 813 East Shepherd, Charlotte, MI.
