Donnelly Joseph Ballard

Donnelly Joseph Ballard Lansing Age 85, our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away May 15, 2012, after a courageous 10 year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Donnelly was born, December 26, 1926, in Lansing, Michigan the son of Earl and Clara (Donnelly) Ballard. Waiting to celebrate his coming was our beloved mother, Margo Anna who has been waiting 9 years to be reunited with our dad. Also there to celebrate his arrival was his three grandsons, Gregory Austin, Michael Butka and Brandon Sharkey; parents, Clara and Earl Ballard; sister, Patricia Lipps; brother, Lawrence Ballard and son-in-law, Jack Austin. Don was a resident of the Lansing area his whole life. He retired from Fisher Body after 42 years of service. He enlisted with United States Navy during W.W.I.I. holding the rank of Seaman 1st Class and was stationed in Guam. Shortly after his return to the United States, he met the love of his life, Margo and they were married on September 6, 1947 at Resurrection Church in Lansing. Together they raised six children who survive him, Debra (Dave) Moray, Melanie (Garry) Smith, Eric (Marsha) Ballard, Margo Ann (Tom) Sharkey, Gregg Ballard and Stephanie (Mike) Butka; brother, Richard (Barb) Ballard. Also surviving are eleven grandsons, four granddaughters and twenty one great grandchildren. Dad, we all love you very much and will keep you forever close in our hearts and your memory alive until we meet again. XXXOOO. Celebration of the Funeral Mass will take place, Saturday, May 19, 2012, 12:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Byers as celebrant. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends, Friday, May 18, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital or Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in memory of Don.
