Elbert Payne Jr.

Elbert Payne Jr. Lansing Passed away January 4, 2014 at the age of 46, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Eaton Rapids, August 19, 1967, the son of Elbert Sr., and Yoshie Miyamoto Sattler. Elbert was a 1986 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. He attended Olivet College where he also played football as a tailback. Elbert worked at Airgas as a medical gas filler. He coached JV and Varsity football at Lansing Catholic Central High School and Eaton Rapids High School. Elbert is a member of the Eaton Rapids Hall of Fame where he still holds the season rushing record. His greatest loves were that of his 3 daughters and his granddaughter. He attended as many of their sporting events as possible. Elbert is survived by his daughters, Ashleigh (Marcus Miller) Lee of Eaton Rapids, Mackenzie Payne of Lansing, Delanie Payne of Lansing; granddaughter, Kaydence Miller; sisters, Monette Martin of Eaton Rapids, Patricia Payne of Eaton Rapids, Gail (Paris) Carpenter of Eaton Rapids; brother, Dale Baker of CA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin Baker. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday January 11, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 600 S. Main St Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family.
