George Duane Carmoney

Williamsburg

G. Duane Carmoney, 82, of Williamsburg, passed away April 17, 2014, at his home.  Duane was born on July 2, 1931 to Carl and Rossetta (Ellison) Carmoney.

Duane grew up on the family farm in Aurelius.  He met Joyce Ruth Miller at the local ice skating pond, and they were wed on June 21, 1952 in Eaton Rapids.  They were married 59 years.

Duane ran a dairy farm near Layton Corners in Jackson County before being drafted into the United States Army in 1955.  After serving for two years, he went to work for Farmers Petroleum delivering fuel.  Duane enjoyed woodworking and was an all-around handyman.  He passed those skills on to his children.  He was an avid gardener, and loved to reminisce about the olden days.

Duane is survived by his five children:  son, Gale (Pat), of Colorado; daughter, Christine (Tony), of Arizona; son, Steven, of Traverse City; son, Charles (Marcia), of Buckley; son, Keith (Tonya), of Traverse City.  He has three grandchildren:  Carlyn, Samantha and Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; his parents, Carl and Rossetta; and his siblings: sisters, Delores, LaMae and Eunice, and brother, C. Dean.

The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Duane, especially friends, hospital and EMS staff, and Hospice. 

There will be no service by request.
