Harold Gale White

Harold Gale White Eaton Rapids Lovingly called "Trouble" by friends at Burcham Hills Retirement Center, but known well as a servant at heart, Harold passed away January 12, 2013 at the age of 90. He was born in Lansing, MI, December 28, 1922 to Earl and Euphemia (Price) White. He was the widower of Elizabeth Louise (Worgul) White since March 18, 2007, having been married on September 11, 1947. After being raised in a state orphanage in his early years and having lived in foster homes as a teenager, Harold entered the United States Navy and served in the Construction Battalions during WWII. Upon his return to Lansing, he finished his high school education, receiving his diploma from Sexton high School. Employed by the State of Michigan, he served from 1955 to 1983, whereupon he retired as Superintendent of Grounds for the Capital Complex. A member of the Charlotte-Eaton Camp Number 2112 of Gideons International since 1983, Harold served three years as Camp President, two years as Chaplain, and four years as Treasurer. For many years a committed Christian he had also contributed to the Slavic Gospel Association. As strength permitted in his later years, he provided valuable service as an elder to the Columbia Road Baptist Church, in Mason. Recalling the troubles of his orphanage and foster home years, he and Elizabeth together had opened their home and their hearts to youth from the VFW Home in Eaton Rapids. Their legacy lives on as the now-grown youths in turn minister to the needs of others. While at Burcham Hills Retirement Center in East Lansing, Harold served as treasurer and librarian for the residents association. Harold leaves behind his son, David P. (Melanie) White of Lansing; brothers-in-law, Robert (Shirley) Worgul, David (Ann) Worgul; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marshall White; several beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Columbia Road Baptist Church, 5000 W. Columbia Rd. Mason, MI 48854 with Pastors John Hayden and Gary Mitchell officiating. Private interment will be held at Munger Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids.
