Ilene Hovey Barryton Formerly of Grand Ledge. Ilene Lucille Fults was born July 14, 1914 in Grand Ledge, Michigan, the daughter of Claude Washington Fults and Gladys (Dean) Fults, where she lived almost all of her life. She loved everything pink, growing flowers, pulling weeds, fussing over things, collecting nearly everything (wax paper, styrofoam, popsicle sticks, Gramdpa Bud's old sets of false teeth, etc.) just in case someone needed to use it sometime. She was a farmer her whole life, for over 60 years running the family farm in Grand Ledge, enjoying the crops, the land, and the animals. She was a member of the Ever Ready Club, served as President of the Eustis, Florida All-State Club. She enjoyed many trips with her grandchildren as they grew up, and stayed young enough to be active with her great-grandchildren. Ilene Lucille (Fults) Hovey is survived by her children, Julaine (Cramer) Kern and husband, Wesley, and Mary Lee Williams. She was known as "Gramma 'Lene" to grandchildren, Don Kern and Francine Robinson, Tom Kern, JW Kern and wife Connie, Jack Kern and wife Susie; great-grandchildren Katherine Burch and husband Shawn, Donald Kern II, Linda Hevel and husband Frank, Lindsey Folk, Tommy Kern, Jr., Jeremy and Eric Kern, and Caroline Kern and John Kern, Jr.; great-great-grandchildren Cody, Carly, Ashley, Amber, and Alexis Burch, Megan, Baker, and Lelia Hevel, Integra Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Voight Hovey and her granddaughter, Lauraine Kern Emmons, who died just a short six weeks earlier. She left us on June 28, 2013; only 16 days away from her 99th birthday. A celebration of her life was held at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Interment was in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Kern, Tom Kern, Shawn Burch, Frank Hevel, Don Kern II and Tom Kern, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
