John Joseph Normand St. Germain

John Joseph Normand St. Germain John was born November 14, 1932 to the late John and Marie (Boucher) St. Germain in Nashua, NH. He and his sister Claire Gagnon are first generation Americans. Their parents and their families migrated from Quebec in the early 1920's. John and Claire went to a French speaking St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for baptism, confirmation and thru 8th grade, then to public school where they learned the English language. John joined the Army in 1950 and became an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper. In 1953 John was hired at the Flint Chevrolet plant. John then met Marilyn Cunningham and they were married at St. Mary's in Flint on February 11, 1956. He was transferred to Lansing Fisher Body in 1970, moving the family to Grand ledge. John was a Quality Control Supervisor at both Fisher Body and Oldsmobile, retiring with over 33 years of service in 1987. John enjoyed vacationing and working at the farm in Traverse City and being on the lakes in the pontoon fishing and having fun as well as picnics with family and friends. John was preceded in death by in-laws, Lawrence and Alyce (Lambert) Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Janousek, Sharon (Bernard) LaMarche and Lois Marie "Duffy" Cunningham and grandbabies, John Anton and Teresa Marie. Surviving are his wife Marilyn of nearly 58 years; Sister, Claire Gagnon of Lansing; children, John and Jean of Traverse City, Jerome and Johanna of Manchester, NH, Caron and Jim Alpers of Interlochen, Mari-Ann and Alfred Birdsong of Las Vegas, NV, Christopher and Melanie of White Pigeon and Matthew and Jenee' of Grand Ledge.; grandchildren Joshua and Robyn, Jami-Lee, Justin, Joseph, Steven and Crystal, James, Stephanie and Kevin, Karen, Alexander, Kevin, Olivia, Sophia, Joshua, Austin, Ian, Dominic, and Maxim.; great grandchildren, Madison, Christian, Kylee-Ann and Akasha, with 2 baby boys expected this spring and summer. A funeral mass will be celebrated by The Reverend Fr. James Eisele, Friday, January 3, 2014, 11am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge immediately followed by military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a scripture service 7:00pm at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Cole-Briggs Post 48 or The Grand Ledge Knights of Columbus, Council 7311, St. Michael Parish.
