Rick L. Wong

Rick L. Wong Laingsburg Rick L. Wong, 62, a follower of Jesus Christ and God's servant, went home to heaven welcomed by His Lord. Rick passed away at home peacefully on March 29, 2013 following a battle with cancer. Rick was born on September 10, 1950 in Lansing, MI the son of Harry and Lee (Poyying) Wong. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1968 and on June 29, 1991 he married Sandra L. Seelye at Grove Bible Church. Rick worked for 38 years for General Motors retiring on July 1, 2006 as Auditor Team Coordinator for Quality Control. He was known for his sense of humor and wit, often having a twinkle in his eye as he waited for people to catch up on his jokes. He was an active member of Grove Bible Church helping out wherever he was needed, often being the first to arrive and the last to leave. Rick also served as Grove Christian School's basketball coach for several years and many years as scorekeeper. Known as the "Candy Man" at church, he loved children and organized AWANA and Sports Week, Grove's children's ministries. The St. Johns Warriors for Christ home school basketball team had a special place in his heart. He was the official scorekeeper for the team. He received the Kiwanis award for Volunteer of the Year in 2011 and the 2013 Volunteer of the Year at Grove Bible Church. Rick is survived by his beloved wife Sandra; children Lori (Jimmy) Herdklotz of Buchanan, Marni Epstein of Grand Rapids, Cory Yerrick of Texas, Kyle Yerrick of Lake Orion, Paul (Rochelle) Yerrick of Gilbert, AZ, David (Wendy) Stanley of Baraboo, WI, and Jonathan (Sherri) Stanley of Greenville, SC; 6 brothers, Gene (Gracie) of West Olive, Bob (Sue) of Grand Rapids, Tony (Jane) of Royal Oak, Jim (Janet) of Lansing, Cheney of Lansing, and Henry (Rochelle) of Dimondale; 2 sisters, Susan (Richard) Leavitt of Lansing and Lotus McCleery of New Philadelphia, OH; and 9 grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 989-224-4422, St. Johns on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and from 12 noon until service time on Wednesday at the church. Funeral services will be held at Grove Bible Church in St. Johns on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00p.m. with Pastor Tim Van Loh officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bath. Memorial contributions may be given to Grove Bible Church in St. Johns.
