Thomas E. "Tom" Olney Sr.
Passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at age 81. Born September 10, 1932 to Glen and Laura Olney in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Tom was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School class of '51. He went on to work for General Motors
where he would later retire as the manufacturing coordinator from the Fisher Body Plant. He was a master welder and lifetime hobby farmer. Tom was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He also enjoyed playing music with his band Classic Country and more recently performing at local senior centers and assisted living facilities.
Preceding him in death were his five brothers, Bill, Glenn Jr., Raymond, Jack, Jim; sisters, Helen Olney, Ruby Ekins, Jean Phillips; granddaughter, Veronica Olney and his parents.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mable Olney; sons, Tom (Lisa) Olney Jr., Rob (Tammy) Olney; grandchildren, Christopher (Stefanie) Olney, Tyler Olney, Travis Olney, Brooke Olney; great grandchildren, Kaelyn Olney, Corbin Olney; sisters, Enid Freiss, Laura (Lennis) Sanders, Judy (Jim) Hall as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids Chapel. Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
