David Ionia Obituary

David L. Cooper Ionia David L. Cooper, of Ionia, formerly of Grand Ledge, age 58, passed away August 17, 2009 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born February 13, 1951 in Lansing, MI, son of the late Donald and Irene (Thomas) Cooper. Dave was a retired corrections officer from Ionia Maximum Correctional Facility for the State of Michigan; he was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in the U.S. Army; he enjoyed hunting and working on old cars. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cheryl; daughters, Demetria and Heather Cooper of Ionia, Jenny Cooper of Lansing, and Mary Baldwin of Jackson; son, Jamie (Tonya) Canfield of Ionia; 8 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald L. Jr. (Eva) and Duane Cooper both of Grand Ledge; brother-in-law, Terry Canfield of Sunfield; sister-in-law, Sandy (Dan) McDiarmid of Sunfield; and father and mother-in-law, Robert (Cindy) Canfield of Ionia. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Dennis and Daniel, and sister, Deanna. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009 - 11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge, with Rev. Troy Shaw officiating. Interment will be held at Easton Township Cemetery, Ionia. The family will begin to receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring, contributions may be made to the Ionia County Commission on Aging or Spectrum Health. Online condolences may be made at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.

Cheryl, I just learned a few minutes ago of Dave's passing. I was so sorry to hear that and wished I had known earlier so I could've come to pay my respects. Both Bob and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We will keep you all in our prayers. I will call you when I get back in town the end of this week.
