Evelyn Patchett Obituary

Evelyn Jean Patchett Lansing Age 63, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, from complications of a stroke she suffered two days earlier. Jean was born April 30, 1947 in Genesee County, in Atlas Township, and grew up in Perry where she graduated from Perry High School in 1965. Her sudden passing capped a life full of spirit and loyalty to her friends and family. Jean enjoyed a wide interest in hobbies and activities throughout her life, and was active in many organizations that advanced those interests. Among her various passions were horseback riding, scuba diving, motorcycling, crafts and music. They provided not only a source of enjoyment but enabled her to add to an ever-expanding circle of friends. Jean spent nearly 40 years working at the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 2006. She was also a member of the National Guard for 10 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Over the years, she would do volunteer work such as providing comfort services for St. Lawrence Hospital Emergency Room families. She was a past choir member and current member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Lansing. Playing flute, occasionally she joined in marching with various local reunion/military bands. She also sang for a time in a local Lansing choral choir. Jean was a long-time member of the Jug and Mug ski club, a member of the Michigan Rowdies for several years, just to mention a couple of the many organizations she was part of. Jean is survived by sisters Betty Patchett (Marge Caid) of Lansing/Constantine, and Carol Patchett Mick (Michael Bartkowiak) of Holt; a son, Trent Jakus of St. Johns; nephews Bob Patchett of Marshall, Tom Patchett (Angie) of Olivet, Jacob Mick of Dansville/Holt, Elijah Mick of Dansville/Holt, and, niece Amy Patchett of Grand Ledge; and three grandnieces and two grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her father Carl, mother Wanda, brother Don and grandniece Brittany. A gathering in remembrance of Jean will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 1, at the Mason-Holt Eagles #3734, 1111 N. Cedar Street, Mason, Michigan. Food will be served. Burial will be at a later date at the Perry Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local Diabetes Association.

Sis, it's been twelve years since you went to see our family. You've not been forgotten and are thought of everyday. The tree the Constantine Marching Band still grows and graces the yard. You're always with me. Love you so much! Someday, I hope to join you all for a fun game of marbles or euchre'. Love, Bet

I was saddened to hear of Jeans passing. She had a remarkable life, and she touched many lives. I met her while we both rehabed at Laurels, and we hit it off from day one. Be in peace Jean. To her family and friends, remember Jean and smile.
