Gregory Paul Byrd Lansing Age 61, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Gregory was born September 7, 1950, in Wyandotte, Michigan the son of John and Jean (Scesny) Byrd. Gregory graduated from Trenton High School and then was drafted into the United States Marines in 1969 where he was trained as a superb Marine Sniper by Gunnery SGT. Hathcock. Gregory also volunteered in the CIA for 11 years. After his service in the Marines Gregory attended Michigan State University. Gregory loved to scuba dive, he had completed 2,500 dives, the ocean is where he felt the most spiritual. The addition of a child later in life filled his heart with love and brought many wonderful surprises to his life, his love for, Crystal, is the one thing in his life that was the constant. Gregory was preceded in death by his mother, Jean. He is survived by his wife, Melody Angel; children, Crystal Angel, Brindley Byrd and Brady Byrd; brother, Paul (Carol) Byrd and Tom (Teresa) Byrd. A Celebration of Gregory's life will take place, Sunday, May 20, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Country Club of Lansing with Winalee Zeeb leading the celebration. The family will receive relatives and friends, Friday, May 18, 2012, from 2-5 p.m. and Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 10:00 - 12:30 p.m. at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Crystal Angel Education Fund in memory of Gregory or there is a gift registry at Target where a small token of love can be given to Crystal.
