Harry George Hedges

- - Harry George Hedges, age 94, passed away peacefully June 7, 2018, in Washington, D.C. Harry was born October 7, 1923 to Elsie and Charles Hedges in Lansing, Michigan. In 1944, he married Mary Jean Corbishley, and together they had two daughters, Susan and Martha. Mary passed away in 1967. Harry served with the U. S. Army during WWII, and after his discharge, he continued his education in electrical engineering, earning a B.S. from Michigan State, a M.S. from the University of Michigan, and in 1960, a Ph. D. from Michigan State University. He began his career at Michigan State in the College of Engineering, where he was appointed the first Chairman of the Computer Science Department, serving in that capacity from 1970-1984. In 1984, he took a sabbatical from MSU to work at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., and remained at NSF until his retirement in 2003. While residing in East Lansing, Michigan, Harry was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church. After moving to Washington, D.C., he joined St. Alban's Episcopal Church where he met and married Kamla, his wife of thirty years. He was an avid Michigan State football and basketball fan, and loved northern Michigan, spending many summers vacationing on Lake Michigan with his family.

Harry is survived by his wife Kamla King Hedges of Washington, D.C., daughters Susan E. Goddard (Win) living in Texas, and Martha H. Lawrence (Stephen Bilo) in Pennsylvania, as well as grandchildren Troy and Taylor Goddard, and Harrison Lawrence.
